Our Current Yoga Class Offerings

  • Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga that incorporates principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles of yoga. The sequences of postures are meant to stimulate the channels of the subtle body which is known as meridian in Chinese medicine and as nadis in Hatha Yoga.

We use various Yin Yoga poses that apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fasciae and ligaments resulting in the increase of circulation in the body along with improved flexibility.

In addition to the postures, these 90 minute classes include meditation and breath work (pranayama). Through the combination of movement, meditation and breath work, we bring together the awareness of inner silence and interconnectivity. Qualities that are often neglected in the hustle and bustle of modern times. We offer two class times for you to experience traditional Yin Yoga in a beautiful and relaxing setting.

  • We practice a very traditional form of breath based Hatha Yoga that is quite internalized. In this way, we are allowed to move into the ideal shape of yourself.  Finding yourself within yourself by following your breath, or allowing your breath to direct you. This form of practice is very different than what is currently being taught in most places.

Hatha Yoga is about balancing the polarities. Of balancing the opposites that we have in life. Developing balance in our life. Recognizing the Ha Tha in Hatha … ‘Ha’ is sun, ‘Tha’ is moon, so Hatha is the union of the sun and the moon. Giving and receiving. Dynamic and static. Strength and receptivity. The balancing of the polarities.

The Breath - In this practice we use the breath to establish the posture. The breath guides our movement. Each asana posture that we enter we do four dynamic postures to establish he posture within the breath, then we perform the posture statically by holding the posture for four breaths. This allows us to establish the posture details and to reflect deeper within.

Within a Hatha Yoga class you will experience both active and passive postures. The active are the heating elements ‘Ha’ and the passive are the cooling elements ‘Tha’, also relative to the Taoist teachings of Yang and Yin.
